IEEE Connects! 2009

IEEE Connects! is a formal dinner event that aims to bridge the gap between students and their career goals. Students and employers will have the opportunity to network with each other in a friendly environment along with professionals and academics representing the field of Engineering. Successful professionals from the field of engineering will share their experiences to illustrate how a student can prudently plan their career in the present day context and embark into his most desired professional career.

From Backpack to Briefcase!

The theme for the night is “From Backpack to Briefcase”. There will be 3 speakers at this event, followed by an hour of networking opportunities for the sponsors and students.

The first speaker is an experienced professional who has seen various facets of the engineering career. He will talk about how to prudently plan a career in engineering and non-engineering fields and the alternative career paths that awaits engineering students after graudation.

The second speaker, once confirmed, will be a prominent female engineer and will speak about the role of women in engineering.

The keynote speaker for the night will be Ibrahim Gedeon, the Chief Technology Officer at TELUS, a world leader in telecommunications. He will share with the audience his incredible success story and how he reached the goals he had established for himself.

Company Booths!

Towards the end of the event there will be an hour long networking session where Information Booths will be set up by about 20 leading Hi-Tech companies. This will provide a great opportunity for students to network with over 40 industry representatives and find out what skills are required to enter and excel in a fast paced corporate environment.

Dinner Buffet !

Last but not least .. a scrumptious dinner buffet will also be served to mark this occassion.
